On August 9, 2024, the Taihu Talent Development Conference, themed “New Era, New Talent, New Ecosystem,” kicked off in Wuxi, Jiangsu. The ATOM SEMI Atomic Semiconductor Project was among the first to receive funding under Wuxi’s “Taihu Talent Program.” The project is the result of years of research by Professor Yuan Jie from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and his team. As one of the initial recipients of the funding, the project will benefit from priority investment, talent settlement rewards, and other preferential policies in Wuxi, facilitating its rapid implementation and development.
Wuxi’s “Taihu Talent Program” actively aligns with Hong Kong’s “Industry-Academia-Research 1+ Program,” and six projects from the “Industry-Academia-Research 1+ Program” received special funding from the “Taihu Talent Program.” This initiative aims to attract and cultivate high-level talent by providing financial support and preferential policies, encouraging research teams to translate their findings into practical applications and promoting local economic development.
ATOM SEMI Atomic Semiconductor Project
The core design technology of the Atomic Semiconductor Project originates from nearly 20 years of research by Professor Yuan Jie and his team at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The project aims to develop the next generation of high-performance intelligent digital sensor chips, with a focus on creating a series of highly integrated, high-performance integrated circuit (IC) chips and solutions for IoT applications.
Atom Semiconductor Technologies Limited
Atom Semiconductor Technologies Limited (hereinafter referred to as Atom Semiconductor) is a high-performance analog chip design company incubated from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The company specializes in developing high-performance sensor chips that can be widely used in various applications in consumer electronics, industrial electronics, and medical electronics. The chip products can achieve internationally leading performance. Atom Semiconductor boasts a highly skilled chip design team. The company has completed two rounds of financing, led by top-tier funds.
The core technology and innovation of Atom Semiconductor lie in integrating the entire signal chain into a chip. The chip can convert physical signals from the real world into electrical signals, which are then captured and processed by computers and electronic devices. Atom Semiconductor’s unique sensor-amplifier-filter-ADC-digital processing architecture provides sensing solutions for applications requiring small size, low power consumption, high precision, and reliability.
After more than three years of research and development, Atom Semiconductor has established a complete range of chip products across three product lines: pressure-sensitive interactive sensors for consumer electronics, temperature sensors based on high computing power platforms, and high-precision 24-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) chips for industrial electronics. The chip products are currently being introduced to customers.
Atom Semiconductor’s next phase of research and development will focus on expanding its product range, including single-chip IC solutions for new applications such as wearable devices, home healthcare, industrial electronics, and robotics. Specifically, this includes wearable biosignal and biomarker sensors, high-speed high-precision ADCs for industrial electronics, and a series of chips to enhance robotic perception.
